Limewash Wabi-Sabi Home in Silver Lake, Los Angeles

This Silver Lake project was designed as a full-home transformation centered around a wabi-sabi aesthetic, where imperfection, texture, and material honesty define the space.

We worked with the developer to apply limewash finishes throughout the home, paired with seamless Concretta bathrooms to complete the overall design language.

Design Approach

The intention was to create a home that felt artistic and lived-in rather than polished or overly refined.

Limewash was selected for all wall surfaces to introduce natural variation and softness, while Concretta was used in bathrooms to maintain continuity in material while ensuring waterproof performance.

Application & Process

We applied limewash throughout the entire home, building up soft tonal variation using multiple coats.

In the bathrooms, we installed Concretta systems to create seamless, waterproof environments that aligned with the overall aesthetic.

The transition between dry areas and wet zones was carefully controlled to maintain consistency across materials.

What We’ve Seen on This Project

Wabi-sabi design relies heavily on restraint. Overworking surfaces can quickly move the space away from its intended feel.

Limewash performs well in these environments because it allows for subtle variation without requiring strong visual contrast.

Result

The finished home feels warm, textured, and intentionally imperfect. Light interacts with the walls in a soft, diffused way, enhancing the overall atmosphere.

The property sold at a record-breaking price for the area, reflecting how strong material direction can directly impact perceived value.
